Venerable Radio Coming Back?
One of the downsides of closing down the reissue section of Venerable Music is that the radio station was attached. Originally, the goal of the station was to augment the sale of CDs through the site and these sales would pay the expenses of running the station. We also asked for donations, but this was only a minor part of how we funded the station. Since the station has shut down, we've received quite a few inquiries on what it would take to bring it back up and running again (I've really missed it myself).
To do this, we would have to change focus on the main funding stream for the station from CD sales to paid subscriptions and/or donations. We would prefer to keep the station streaming for free (and ad free) and focus on monthly donation goals. The expenses of running the station are really not that high & should be able to sustain on less than $150 per month. More than that would allow us a budget to continue to add music as well as occasionally upgrade the the equipment used to run the station. Another aspect to keep in mind is that as we move away from the goal of the station being to sell CDs, we can begin to add more of the never to be reissued obscurities to the database, further broadening the playlist.
What we would like to do is gather some information from our previous listeners on the possibility of support & ideas on making the station better. Below we have a brief questionnaire that will help us gather some information and gauge the possibilities of meeting our basic financial goals. If you have the time and are interested in having the station return, we'd love if you could answer one or more of the questions below.
Questionnaire:
How often did you listen to Venerable Radio?
What are your most favorite types of music to listen to on our station? ....least favorite and wish we did not play?
What were your favorite aspects of the station?
What are ways you suggest that the station could be improved?
With a re-launch, could you be a contributor to the station?
If so, how much could you contribute to the stations running expenses?
- $ 100 per year
- $ 50 per year
- $ 25 per year
- $ 10 per month
- $ 5 per month
- $ 1-3 per month
- $ 1 per day
- 50 cents per day
- 25 cents per day
- 10 cents per day
